Tents and Towers

I am fascinated with cities, and with all their contradictions. One of humanity’s greatest inventions, radiant cities offer beauty, creativity, close community and opportunity, while they also exhibit some of our worst qualities - our indifference to suffering and crushing inequalities, our creation of blight and waste.

In the series Tents and Towers I invite you to feel both realities, the sublime and the degraded, as they occur in our present moment. And I also ask you to question which are most alive, persistent, and creative - the splendid but impersonal and looming towers of downtown, or the tenacious, quirky, bedraggled encampments of the unhoused.
